Shaikh Salih ibn Fawzan ibn Abdullah al-Fawzan Hafizahullah is among the most prominent scholars of Saudi Arabia today. In 2025 he was appointed the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, and he is a longstanding member of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta. He is widely studied for his clear teaching in aqeedah (Islamic creed) and fiqh, always built on evidence from the Quran and authentic Sunnah. Early life & education
Shaikh al-Fawzan was born in 1354 AH (around 1935 CE) in ash-Shamasiyyah in the al-Qassim region, of the tribe of ad-Dawasir. Orphaned young, he first learned the Quran and basic literacy from the imam of his town's mosque, Shaikh Hamud ibn Sulayman at-Talal.
He studied at the Faisaliyyah School in Buraydah, then the Educational Institute in Buraydah (1373–1377 AH), and graduated from the Faculty of Shari‘ah in Riyadh in 1381 AH. He went on to earn a Master's degree and a Doctorate in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) from the same faculty.
