What is Tawheed in Islam?
التوحيد
Tawheed (monotheism) is the message of every Prophet: worship Allah alone, obey Him, and do not associate partners with Him. It is not merely a label but a complete way of life — in prayer, intention, love, fear, hope, and reliance.
Three types of Tawheed
- Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah — Recognising that Allah alone is the Creator, Provider, and Controller of all affairs.
- Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah — Directing all worship — prayer, supplication, sacrifice, vows — to Allah alone.
- Tawheed al-Asma was-Sifat — Affirming Allah's names and attributes as revealed, without likening Him to creation or denying His attributes.
Kitab al-Tawheed is the classic text on this subject. The sharah on this site walks through it lesson by lesson in Urdu.

Scholars commonly explain three categories: Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah (Lordship — Allah alone creates and sustains), Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah (worship — acts of devotion are for Allah alone), and Tawheed al-Asma was-Sifat (names and attributes — affirming what Allah revealed about Himself without distortion).
